Flight International online news 12:30GMT: Start-up aircraft manufacturer Sino Swearingen has gained Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification for its SJ30-2 aircraft.
The FAA certification means the company can now begin commercial production of the SJ30-2 following 15 years of development work, during which time a test pilot was killed after a prototype crashed in 2003.
The aircraft's development has been spearheaded by Ed Swearingen, a Texas businessman who has worked in the aircraft industry for more than 60 years.
It will be manufactured at the company's Martinsburg plant, located on West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle.
