RUSSIA AND SLOVAKIA have concluded an agreement covering the delivery of a further seven Mikoyan MiG-29 single-seat fighters and one MiG-29UB two-seat trainer as part of a debt write-off package.

The aircraft will be ferried to Slovakian airfields by December. The Slovakian air force took delivery of five single-seat fighters and two MiG-29UBs in 1994. It has a total of 15 MiG-29s in service.

MiG-MAPO is also negotiating with the Slovakian air force over the potential upgrade of its Mikoyan MiG-21 Fishbed fighters. The air force is hoping to upgrade 56 of its 86 MiG-21s that remain in service.
