Lockheed Martin’s Surveilling Miniature Attack Cruise Missile (SMACM) demonstrator programme remains on track to conduct its first live firings late this year, says Jim Pappafotis, director of advanced programmes at Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control. A missile with an inert warhead will engage a moving T-72 tank during demonstrations at Eglin AFB, Florida. SMACM’s tri-mode seeker, taken from the Joint Common Missile programme, will next month undergo captive carry tests on a helicopter to help improve understanding of seeker behaviour. The SMACM round is expected to have an endurance of more than 60min, says Pappafotis.
