It's easy to forget when dealing with the engineering elite in Paris that the support staff who build the stands have an important role to play.

There is an enormous amount of talent behind the scenes and aircraft designers are not the only master craftsmen exhibiting at Paris.

Scale model maker Elie Kaoua and team have built the first ever motorised scale Eurocopter model that moves about its axis in exactly the same way as its full-sized cousin in flight. (Hall 2A, 18).

Seventy-two-year-old Kaoua is passionate about his model making, which has kept him young since he left his earlier career as a car designer at the age of 50 to build scale models for Dassault.

Building the motorised Eurocopter was tricky he says, but "a tough challenge is always the best and I wouldn't bother if it wasn't difficult".
