EDO MBM Technology (Hall 3, E9) is using Le Bourget for the first showing of its new Sabre store carriage and release systems, specially developed for unmanned air vehicles.

1150

Sabre is described as a family of ultra-lightweight, non-pyrotechnic, modular carriers. The company says a Sabre twin carrier weighs only 13.5kg (30lb) but is capable of carrying up to 575kg (1,300lb). A triple carrier with the same capacity weighs 40kg.

This enables the carriage of weapons up to 225kg, such as Paveway IV, JDAM GPS-guided bombs and Hellfire.

Logistics

The company adds that logistics requirements are eased because no pyrotechnic consumables are used, easing deployment in rough field and out-of-area operations.

Meanwhile, EDO has been awarded an $11 million contract for the first production batch of 135 BRU-55 dual-carriage, smart bomb racks. The contract was awarded by US Naval Air Systems Command.

The BRU-55 smart rack incorporates the electronics necessary to interface with smart weapons such as the GBU-38, 225kg JDAM. It enables individual targeting and release of each weapon.
