IPL, THE UK SOFTWARE verification-products company, has had its AdaTEST verification tool qualified by GEC-Marconi Avionics for use on the Boeing 777 programme.

The UK Avionics Company, which has recently completed a successful audit of the product, will use the AdaTEST to test its own software for the primary flight computer, which is being supplied by GEC-Marconi for the 777 twinjet.

IPL says that the AdaTEST was chosen because it was the only tool which could provide the type of evidence of software testing required by the RTCA DO-178 software standard - a high level of code coverage known as Modified Condition/ Decision Coverage.

GEC's qualification of the AdaTEST equipment is considered relevant for the whole 777 programme and the company is now awaiting acceptance by the European Joint Aviation Authorities.
