SAA announces line-up

The two highest profile changes unveiled as part of the new management team at South African Airways see the creation of a deputy chief executive position, filled by Oyama Mabandla, and the departure of chief financial officer Richard Forson.

SAA has been aided by London-based consultancy Korn Ferry International in the restructuring, which sees not only the creation of the deputy chief executive position but establishes six executive vice-presidents (EVPs) as well.

Mabandla headed strategy, revenue management and network planning at SAA, and previously worked for Swiss bank UBS in London and Johannesburg. He later joined the Johannesburg Bar as an advocate of the Supreme Court of South Africa.

The new EVP commercial is Andile Mabizela, formerly SAA's EVP alliance and international affairs; SAA veteran Johan van Jaarsveld is EVP customer service; Nolwazi Qata is EVP Human Resources; Rinesh Ramkissoon is EVP SAA Technical; and Vuyisile Kona is EVP Subsidiaries.

The final EVP post is that of finance, to be vacated by Forson who has resigned, and will be filled shortly, says SAA.
