Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has delivered the last of 140 Lockheed Martin KF-16 fighters to the South Korean air force. The company, which has assembled F-16s at its Sachon plant since the mid-1990s, is now shifting its focus to the Boeing F-15K, which was selected in 2002 as South Korea's next-generation fighter. KAI has already begun producing forward fuselages and wings for the F-15K, 40 of which will be delivered from late next year. Follow-on orders for up to 80 additional aircraft are likely. The end of KF-16 production also allows KAI to ramp up production of the new KAI/Lockheed Martin T-50 supersonic trainer.
