THE PENTAGON intends to sell South Korea 1,065 Stinger shoulder-launched air-defence missiles and 213 launchers, plus other related equipment, in a deal estimated at $307 million.

The weapons sale, which is expected to be completed without objection from the US Congress, will be the first Stinger transfer to the Seoul Government. The heat-seeking weapon is manufactured by Hughes Missile Systems.

Israel, meanwhile, plans to buy nearly 100,000 Primex Technologies M107 155mm artillery rounds at a cost of $30 million.

Thailand will receive 107 surplus M60A3 105mm tanks plus related hardware, radios and training worth $100 million. It earlier bought 253 heavy tanks from the Pentagon, including 125 M60A3s. The rest were early-model M60s and M48 armoured vehicles.
