US CARRIER Southwest Airlines has selected the Evans & Sutherland (E&S) ESIG-3350 visual system for a Boeing 737-700 full-flight simulator which is on order from Thomson Training & Simulation (TTS). The Level C simulator is to enter service at the end of 1997, when 737-700 launch customer Southwest receives the first of its 63-aircraft order.

E&S will install the visual system at the new Southwest Flight Training Center at Love Field in Dallas, Texas. The company will integrate its image generator and raster/calligraphic projectors with a wide-angle display system to be supplied by TTS as part of the simulator. E&S said that it has pioneered the approach of using optics, supplied by the simulator builder (Flight International, 24-30 July).

The Southwest simulator is TTS's second for the next-generation 737. A 737-800 machine is under construction for Lufthansa.
