Southwest Airlines has tapped BAE Systems for a five-year, exclusive agreement covering MRO services for the full authority digital engine controls (FADECs) on its Boeing 737 fleet.
The contract will cover FADECs on the CFM International CFM56-7 engines powering more than 450 of the carrier’s next generation 737s.
Endicott, New York-based BAE Systems has performed this service for Southwest since 2011 through its joint venture with Safran group’s Sagem. The firm specialises in manufacturing and supporting engine electronics.
"BAE has consistently delivered high quality, reliable repair and overhaul services at a competitive price," says Bill Tiffany, Southwest’s vice-president, supply chain. "By minimising the turn times of FADECs, we have been able to reduce our spare pool over the life of the fleet."
