Pratt &Whitney and Aerojet-General have ended negotiations to form a space propulsion joint venture, citing unexpected issues with programme transition requirements.

Liquid rocket specialist P&W Space Propulsion and solid rocket leader Aerojet announced their plan in July to form a new company, majority owned by P&W.

Aerojet and P&W say that following a detailed evaluation it was determined that the required cost benefits could not be achieved. The two companies now plan to "explore opportunities on a selective programme basis".
