The European Space Agency's Euromir 2 mission astronaut, Thomas Reiter, returned to Earth aboard the Russian Soyuz TM22 craft on 29 February after an extended stay on the Mir 1 space station. The German and his two Russian colleagues, were replaced on the Mir 1 by a two-man Soyuz TM23 crew. Reiter's 179-day flight was the longest by a non-Russian.
