Flight International online news 10:30 GMT: Crew from the Space Shuttle Discovery kicked off their second spacewalk at 09:42 GMT this morning.

The objective of this EVA is to replace a Control Moment Gyroscope (CMG) on the International Space Station. There are three CMGs which enable the station to maintain its position relative to Earth.

The walk, which is due to last six and a half hours, is being taken by mission specialists Soichi Noguchi and Steve Robinson while other crew members continue cargo transfers to the station.

Team leaders at Nasa are still deciding whether to send an astronaut to Discovery's underside to possibly cut away tile gap filler, that is sticking out in two places.

They are worried that any loose filler could trigger overheating of the tiles as Discovery re-enters Earth's atmosphere later this week.

Any repair would most likely take place on the third and final planned space walk of the mission on Wednesday.
