Boeing's Delta II team's launch record in 1998 of 14 vehicles and delivering 41 spacecraft to orbit, led to the company to win the Space category award.

Judges said the team's work "demonstrated outstanding performance in support of US Government and commercial space programmes".

The Delta II is a medium-capacity expendable launch vehicle which is manufactured in Huntingdon Beach, California, and is part of a family of rockets dating back to 1961.

Finalists were Surrey Satellite Technology for bringing Earth observation and remote sensing capabilities within reach of developing nations and Northrop Grumman for the cost-saving potentials of the ultra-band microwave power module. It provides a weight reduction of 150lb per satellite or a cost saving of $3 million per satellite.
