THE SPACEPORT Florida Authority has received a further $280,000 from NASA to refurbish a military launch pad at Cape Canaveral for commercial use and to develop a customer-service centre at Port Canaveral.

NASA's funding, which has now reached almost $1 million, complements $600,000 from the State of Florida and $2 million from the US Air Force, which is supporting the effort to attract further commercial work to establish the Cape as a space business centre. The conversion of launch pad 46, used for Trident missile tests, is seen as the first step. o
