Spain and the USA agreed on 18 November to work towards liberalising air traffic between the two countries at a high-level meeting in Spain. No further meetings are scheduled and there is no target date for an open skies deal to come into effect, but the will to work towards it exists, the Spanish government says. The bilateral agreement between the two was last revised in 1991 and may come up for renegotiation if Iberia succeeds in forging a partnership of some sort with American Airlines, its preferred candidate.
