Spectrum Astro has finished building the High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager (HESSI) spacecraft bus. It was shipped to UC Berkeley in January where it will be launched aboard a Pegasus rocket later this year.

Spectrum is working with UC Berkeley to integrate and test the HESSI payload, which includes an imaging system and spectrometer.

HESSI is the next primary mission in NASA's Small Explorer (SMEX) series of space science mission. It is designed to investigate the physics of particle acceleration and energy release in solar flares, observing X-ray and gamma ray emissions.
