Standards body ASTM International has begun work on developing consensus design standards for the USA's proposed light-sport aircraft category. Industry standards covering six varieties of aircraft from fixed-wing to gyroplane could be in place by January next year, when the US Federal Aviation Administration finalises the sport aircraft rule.
