Singapore Technologies Engineering is still interested in buying the aircraft maintenance unit of bankrupt SAirGroup, Swissair's holding company, despite the expiry of its recent non-binding bid.

"If the opportunity should arise for us to reconsider later, we are open to such possibility. For now, there is no development," says ST Engineering in a statement to the Singapore stock exchange.

The ST Aerospace parent is one of several companies to have looked at acquiring loss-making SR Technics since the collapse of its parent last year. Other potential bidders include Lufthansa Technik and EADS.

ST Aerospace has recently acquired aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities in the UK and USA.

SR Technics has remained silent about its future ownership since May, when it announced a net loss of SFr240 million ($159 million) for 2001.
