UK airports group BAA, reporting for its latest 1996/7 financial year, says that London Stansted has made its first operating profit since opening in 1991 and also handled more than 5 million passenger for the year. BAA has invested £500 million ($813 million) in developing the airport over the past decade and pledged another £15 million for a second satellite terminal to handle an extra 2 million passengers.
