Star Alliance partners South African Airways and Avianca Brazil have launched codeshare operations.
The agreement means SAA passengers will be able to travel on some Avianca Brazil flights under the “SA” code, connecting Sao Paulo’s international airport to Brasília, Cuiaba, Curitiba, Florianopolis, Fortaleza, Goiania, Juazeiro do Norte, Maceio, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro and Salvador.
SAA operates ten weekly flights between Johannesburg and Sao Paulo.
The deal will also enable Avianca Brazil passengers to travel from Brazilian destinations through to Johannesburg, via SAA's service to Sao Paulo.
Brazil is South Africa’s largest trading partner in Latin America, says SAA’s acting chief exectuvive Musa Zwane. “The codeshare relationship between the two Star Alliance carriers is of vital importance for the advancement of the broader development of Africa and South America.”
