The Star Alliance has signed a deal with software giant BEA Systems for volume discounts for members that buy its infrastructure applications. Star chief information officer Mike Stagl says that some of the smaller alliance members would not be able to afford the BEA middleware applications for communicating with Star partners through the Starnet IT platform on their own, and that the deal is structured so that the more computer power the Star allies buy, the greater the discount.
