Startup Family Airlines is looking for volunteers to work on US FAA manuals as the Las Vegas-based company manoeuvres the certification process.
"By volunteering it could lead to great employment opportunity," according to the posting. "You can work at home."
Carrier founder and CEO Barry Michaels tells ATI he used craigslist to find executives and figured he would use the site to locate volunteers as well.
Volunteers are reviewing completed Safety Attribute Inspection (SAI) manuals before documents are submitted the FAA, he says, adding materials will likely be turned in to FAA during the first week of October.
Family Airlines is seeking regulatory approval to fly widebody Boeing 747-400 aircraft from Las Vegas to major US cities.
In its ad seeking volunteers the company stresses that those interested can work at their own convenience, and "If you are interested, we will need to get you a disk with the material you are to review and explain what to do".
Similar to the now defunct Skybus Airlines, Family plans to pursue revenue streams beyond ticket sales. In-flight food service and entertainment rentals, including video games, movies, Internet and email, will be available for purchase via credit card.
Meanwhile, it is yet to be seen as to what Michaels role will be with the airline.
In May, regulators gave Family Airlines until June to remove Michaels because of his involvement in a fraudulent stock offering in 1993.
DOT explains that Barry Michaels participated in the offering of $5 million in registered stock in the predecessor to the carrier, also dubbed Family Airlines.
Regulators explain the conviction of Michaels on misrepresentation charges made in a private stock offering is enough to keep the company from winning DOT clearance to launch operations.
Michaels says lawyers are working through the situation.
