Stéphane Mayer has joined Daher-Socata as its chief executive. He will be responsible for boosting the fortunes of the company's general aviation division through new investment and future project offerings.

The French airframer - which builds the TBM 850 high-performance, single-engined turboprop and the GT series of piston singles - is already working on its first twin-engined jet, which could be launched in 2011 to coincide with the projected recovery in the business aviation sector and the company's 100th anniversary.

The 47-year-old Mayer is no stranger to Socata, having served as chief executive of the then EADS-owned company from 2003 to 2007 before its acquisition the following year by Daher. Mayer is the former chief executive of regional turboprop manufacturer ATR.
