The first major UK-sourced component for the F-35B short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) variant of Lockheed Martin’s Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) entered production at BAE Systems’ Samlesbury site in the UK last week. The component – a major frame for the aft fuselage – will take three months to complete. BAE will deliver the first STOVL aircraft’s aft fuselage to Lockheed’s Forth Worth line in Texas by early 2007.
