Flag carrier Aeromexico has obtained approval from the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York for a 75-day extension to propose a reorganisation plan.

The extension of its exclusive period was approved considering the good progress Aeromexico made with its restructuring, among other reasons, the Mexican airline says.

Aeromexico will continue pursuing, in an orderly manner, its voluntary financial restructuring through Chapter 11, while continuing to operate and offer services to its customers and deal with its suppliers for the goods and services required for operations, it says.

The SkyTeam carrier says it will continue to strengthen its financial position and liquidity, protect and preserve its operations and assets, and implement necessary adjustments to mitigate the effects of Covid-19.

Grupo Aeromexico, the parent company of Aeromexico, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the USA in July 2020 after the pandemic hit.
