Asiana Airlines has agreed to wet-lease a second Boeing 747-400 Freighter from Atlas Air.
The US-based freight operator says the aircraft will enter service this month, and provide additional capacity on routes between South Korea and “several destinations” in the USA.
Atlas started provided additional lift for Asiana using a 747-400 in 2017, complementing the Korean carrier’s fleet of 11 747-400Fs and helping to meet strong demand for air cargo shipments.
In its financial results for the quarter ended 30 June, Asiana disclosed that its cargo yield on international routes rose 15% to 27.2 US cents. That was despite a three point decrease in load factor to 80%.
