Ethiopian Airlines will drop services to Los Angeles and add a new service to Houston as part of a reorganisation of the its routes to the USA.
The Star Alliance carrier says services to the US West Coast gateway will end this summer, to be replaced with a thrice-weekly service to Houston operated using Boeing 787 aircraft.
The Houston service will be routed via Lome which is currently the case for its LA flight. Ethiopian had previously served the US gateway from Addis Ababa via Dublin.
The Addis Ababa-based carrier does not give a reason for its cancellation of flights to LA but say its new Houston route will facilitate the travel for the "huge" African community in the Houston area, along with oil firms doing business in Africa.
FlightGlobal schedules data indicates that there are no airlines operating services between Houston and Addis Ababa.
Services to Washington will be increased from a daily service to ten weekly flights, with the three additional frequencies operating via Abidjan. Frequency on its Chicago service will rise from three to five weekly flights.
The carrier says daily services to New York, will consist of four flights a week via Lome and three via Abidjan.
