Jetstar will operate its last turboprop flight in New Zealand on 30 November, confirming its intention announced one month ago.
Chief executive Gareth Evans says it had completed consultation with the employees that will be affected, and will move ahead with its proposal.
“As we explained when we announced our proposal in September, this decision is based on our regional operations continuing to be loss making, combined with higher costs and a softening of the regional travel market,” he adds.
Jetstar's turboprop operations started on 1 December 2015, using five De Havilland Canada DHC 8-Q300s that were operated by Qantas regional unit Eastern Australia Airlines.
The airline uses the turboprops to fly to Nelson, Napier, Palmerston North and New Plymouth, which complement its core domestic service between Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown, and Dunedin.
