SpiceJet and Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding for a reciprocal codeshare agreement.
Subject to regulatory approvals, SpiceJet passengers will be able to connect on to European services operated by Emirates, such as Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Manchester, and Paris. The codeshare would then be extended to other destinations in the Americas and the Middle East.
Emirates will meanwhile gain six new Indian destinations through the codeshare: Amritsar, Jaipur, Pune, Mangalore, Madurai and Kozhikode.
SpiceJet adds that an optimised scheduling will allow a minimal transit time between India and international destinations, as well as book connecting flights on a single reservation.
"While SpiceJet passengers from across India will be able to enjoy seamless connectivity leveraging Emirates vast network across Europe, Africa, America and the Middle East, those travelling to India on Emirates will be able to travel to 51 destinations across our domestic network," says the low-cost carrier's chairman and managing director Ajay Singh.
Cirium schedules data shows that from Dubai, SpiceJet flies to 10 Indian cities while Emirates operates to 11 Indian cities.
