Former IATA chief executive Tony Tyler will join the board of Qantas as a non-executive director in October.
The appointment will be subject to approval by shareholders at the carrier’s annual general meeting, but it appears likely to pass.
Chairman Leigh Clifford says that Tyler will bring strong airline experience to the board, having been the chief executive of Cathay Pacific prior to heading up IATA between 2011 and 2016.
“His industry knowledge runs deep and so does his experience of doing business in Asia, which is a key market for the Qantas Group. Tony’s perspective will be a valuable addition to the knowledge already on the Board,” says chairman Leigh Clifford.
Tyler also sits on the boards of Bombardier and lessor BOC Aviation.
