WestJet has ratified a three-year agreement with its flight dispatchers, represented by the Canadian Airline Dispatchers Association (CALDA), continuing a wave of unionisation at the airline.
The agreement, effective 18 May runs through May 2022. Dispatchers at the Calgary-based airline voted 90% in favour of the agreement. WestJet Encore dispatchers ratified a similar three-year agreement with the company on 23 May, which will run from 22 May through May 2022.
"This is a positive step in the right direction and a testament to WestJetters working together," says Justin Jones, WestJet CALDA chair in a statement.
WestJet is seeing increased unionisation since 2017 when a majority of pilots chose to join the Air Line Pilots Association. The Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Association union ratified a five-year agreement at the start of April with the carrier, effective 1 May through 2024. WestJet staff represented by the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Association (AMEA) union have approved a five-year agreement with the carrier effective 1 May.
