The Finnish Government is looking to privatise its air traffic control (ATC) system in response to a five-week strike that has crippled the service.

Finland is examining other privatised - or corporatised - ATC systems. It may subcontract some services as an interim measure.

Senior managers have been running the Finnish network since the start of the pay dispute, but domestic flights have been cut by 80% and international ones by 30%.

· The privatisation of the UK's National Air Traffic Services could be delayed until after the country's next general election in 2002 because of a lack of legislative slots, newspaper reports suggest.
