India has successfully carried out the seventh flight trial of the locally developed medium range surface-to-air missile, the Akash, at the Chandipore test range on April 21.

The missile uses ramjet propulsion and is part of an integrated guided missile development programme being undertaken by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The missions' main aim was to establish the reliability and repeatability of performance of the ramjet technology. The Akash, which has a range of some 25km, uses the indigenously developed phased array 'Rajendra' radar.
