Summa, Colombia's major carrier formed from the integration of Aces, Avianca, and SAM has entered an accord with Delta Air Lines to codeshare, reciprocate on frequent flyer plans and lounge access, and co-operate in other ways.

This follows a similar accord last year bringing Summa closer to membership of the SkyTeam alliance, of which Delta and Air France are founding members. The alliance has only Aeromexico in the region.

Summa and Delta have not applied for approval to codeshare on specific routes. Delta flies to Bogot, but Summa does not fly to Delta's Atlanta hub. Last October Summa phased out Avianca's frequent flyer plan in favour of a new scheme covering combined operations. Its new Delta accord replaces one that Aces inked with Delta in 2000.

Last September SkyTeam said the alliance was seeking Latin American members, but was mostly interested in Argentina and Brazil. Aeromexico is its only Latin American member so far.
