Japan's HKS Aviation is looking at developing a more powerful version of its 700E two-cylinder engine.
HKS chief executive Hiroyuki Hasegawa says the manufacturer is looking at a next-generation engine with 100hp (75kW), compared with 80hp for the 700E.
HKS introduced the 700E in the US market in 2008 and has since shipped more than 1,000 engines. The 700E now powers 30 different types of aircraft in the light sport aircraft and ultralight sectors, a market now dominated by Rotex.
The 700E was the first aviation project for HKS, which has its roots in the automotive engine business.
