Component specialist Ladish has won a patent for its SuperCooler system, which provides better control in heat treatment cycles for aerospace forgings.

The SuperCooler allows components to be designed with "a better balance of mechanical properties and reduced residual stresses", says Kerry Woody, Ladish president and chief executive officer. The system uses tailored heat-transfer coefficients, improving control of residual stresses and mechanical properties. SuperCooler also promises cost-savings because the right amount of raw material is used, says Ladish.
