Sir - I wonder at the amount of talk of pilots' salaries.

We are not "supermen". Pay is dictated by the market. About four years are needed to build up a pilot who meets the minimum professional standards. There is a dropout rate of more than 80% and, of the survivors, only those logging a sound career record will reach command.

As long as the market demands it, this type of person will be needed, and none will take up the career unless well rewarded.
