Honeywell (Hall 1/A15) and Thales Avionics (Outdoor P2) have announced that Gulfstream will offer their HS-600 high-speed data system on its four long- and ultra-long-range large-cabin business jets.

These include the long-range Gulfstream IV and Gulfstream IV-SP and ultra-long-range Gulfstream V and Gulfstream V-SP. Retrofit installations are also available on existing Gulfstream aircraft.

When added to the existing communications system, the HS-600 increases data rates more than 25 times, from 2.4 kilobits per second to as much as 64kbps – slightly faster than an average telephone modem connection.

Users are able to surf the web, send and receive e-mail and conduct video conferences, although the latter is restricted by the 64kbps data rate. "We are seeing tremendous demand for this system," says Ken Snodgrass, Honeywell's RF systems marketing director.

Reliability

Paul Kahn, managing director for Thales Avionics, says: "We installed an HS-600 on a business jet and took it on a demonstration tour, and everyone who tried it was highly impressed with its speed, its reliability and how easy it is to use."

The HS-600 is one of the first airborne data systems to use Inmarsat‘s new Swift64 high-speed data service. It can be added to any Honeywell/Thales satellite communications system.
