Why opt for secondhand when you can have a brand new executive jet for just $3.5 million
With 103 firm orders - 60 per cent from the USA and 40 per cent from Europe - in its slipstream so far, Sino Swearingen is hoping its SJ30-2 will capture the imagination of customers in Asia too.
"People will buy a jet if it gives value-for-money, has the range, speed and the total configuration they are looking for," says Chester Schickling, senior vice president for marketing and sales, who announced the signing of a new distributor at the show.
Swedish-based Flight Economy will distribute the jet to the UK through its agent CSE Aviation which owns and operates Oxford Airport in England.
So who exactly wants the SJ30-2 in their transport stable?
"Our target customers are high profile people who want a high performance: they want to travel farther, faster and higher for less money than ever before," says Schickling.
"The SJ30-2 has a range of 2,500 nautical miles, a speed in excess of Mach 0.80, an operating altitude of 49,000 ft and seats six to seven including the pilot."
The jet, described by the maker as a "sports car of the air", is due to be certified in autumn 1999 with first deliveries at the end of the year.
