Aircraft operators shopping for broadband satellite communications have another supplier to add to the mix. Starling Advanced Communications (booth 4476) yesterday unveiled Mini-Mijet, a Ku-band antenna for the corporate aviation market.
The Israeli company says the antenna’s unusual multi-panel design yields the required performance at a fraction of the size and weight of conventional Ku-band systems.
Measuring just 4in (100mm) high and 16in in diameter, Mini-Mijet supports data rates of 512Kbit/s from the aircraft and 4-7Mbit/s in the opposite direction.Mini-Mijet is based on the larger, air transport-standard Mijet, which is positioned as a potential alternative to the Connexion by Boeing antenna. Mijet is to be flight tested in the second quarter of next year and to be offered commercially from the fourth quarter.
