Sydney Airport saw passenger traffic fall 3.2% on-year in July, although it would have been flat if not for World Youth Day's boosting traffic in July 2008.

Total passenger traffic for July was 2.8 million, compared with 2.9 million in July 2008, says Sydney Airport parent Macquarie Airports (MAp).

International passenger traffic fell 3% to 930,000; domestic passenger traffic fell 2.7% to 1.9 million.

"International traffic at Sydney, down 3%, was flat if the impact of World Youth Day last year is eliminated, with Australian travellers particularly strong," says MAp CEO Kerrie Mather.
