Australia's Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is poised to rule on Sydney Airport's plan to increase airline user charges by an average of 130%. A Qantas-led group of 17 airlines has begun legal action against the hike, claiming it breaks a pledge not to increase charges as a result of the airport's refurbishment, completed last year. The fee hike will see existing charges abolished in favour of a complex formula. Fees at Sydney are particularly controversial because a cap could hurt its price when it is privatised.
