Australia's government has slammed Sydney Airports for backing calls to move the operations of regional airlines at the city to nearby Bankstown airport. John Anderson, Australia's minister for transport and regional services, has attacked Sydney Airports, which operates the Kingsford Smith International Airport, for exceeding its authority in seeking to determine national aviation policy.

The Ministry for Transport and Regional Services wants to construct a second international airport at Badgery's Creek outside the city, but persistent local opposition has delayed the plan and moving regional air traffic to Bankstown may strengthen claims that a new airport is not necessary.
