Symphony Aircraft Industries (SAI) has announced three major upgrades for the Symphony 160 aimed at the North American market, each to be certificated for service by July.
The Canadian-built two-seater will see dramatic improvements on the flightdeck, with the Avidyne Entegra integrated glass cockpit included in the baseline model and an S-TEC autopilot offered as a factory-installed option. Another $18,500 optional upgrade for customers would provide the Ballistic Recovery System (BRS) aircraft recovery parachute.
"These are the technologies the North American market wants," says SAI president Paul Costanzo, who claimed the Symphony 160 from OMF Canada, a subsidiary of Germany's now-defunct Ostmecklenburgische Flugzeugbau (OMF). Costanzo consolidated full control of intellectual property rights after a new holding company, which bore the OMF name, ceased operations late last year.
Canada-based SAI is moving the Symphony 160's supply chain from Europe to North America, with plans to ramp up production.
