Airbus took net orders for 1,109 aircraft last year, eclipsing the figure of 912 from rival Boeing after strong activity in December.
The airframer lagged Boeing on deliveries, however, although it managed to achieve 718 – close to its ambitious revised target of 720. Boeing delivered 763 jets in 2017.
Airbus secured net orders in December for 776 aircraft, assisted by the firming of agreements with Wizz Air, Frontier Airlines and Delta Air Lines.
It also managed to deliver an extraordinary 127 during the same month.
These included 105 A320-family jets – among them 47 A320neos – as well as nine A350s and 12 A330s.
Airbus's deliveries surpassed last year's figure by 30 aircraft.
It has publicly disclosed the figures in a revised backlog ahead of a briefing scheduled for 15 January to detail its order and delivery performance.
