Airbus's A320neo-family deliveries over September tentatively indicate an improved balance between the rival powerplants on the type.
Analysis of the 14 deliveries during the month shows that eight of the deliveries featured the Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engine – more than the total in the previous three months combined.
The improved balance is also significant given the upturn in the overall number of A320neo-family deliveries for the month.
Airbus states that the eight PW1100G-powered aircraft comprised a total of seven A320neos handed over to Sichuan Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, Lufthansa, GoAir, S7 Airlines and IndiGo, plus an A321neo for ANA.
ANA's aircraft was the first customer A321neo to be delivered with the Pratt & Whitney engine.
Airbus deliveries of PW1100G-powered A320neos had dipped since the first quarter as the engine manufacturer sought to resolve continuing technical snags.
As a result deliveries of aircraft with the CFM International Leap-1A engine, over the first nine months of this year, still outnumber those with the PW1100G by two to one.
Six aircraft were delivered in September with Leap-1A engines. Sixty of the 90 A320neo-family aircraft delivered this year have Leap powerplants; the other 30 are equipped with PW1100Gs.
