Airbus has commenced production of the first A320 at its US final assembly line in Alabama.
It states that the twinjet (MSN7724) will eventually be bound for budget carrier Spirit Airlines.
The airframer has, to date, only manufactured the larger A321 at the facility in Mobile.
Airbus commenced work at the assembly line nearly two years ago and has delivered 27 A321s from the plant.
It says it has received the major components for the first US-built A320.
"This marks another important milestone for the manufacturing facility," says the airframer.
Mobile became the fourth final assembly line for the manufacturer, after Toulouse, Hamburg and Tianjin. It is also capable of producing the A319.
