AirFi Indonesia has been selected by Lion Air Group to supply wireless IFE across the 200-plus aircraft that make up the fleets of its five airlines.
The fleets of that quintet – the low-cost Lion Air, the group's three full-service carriers (FSCs) Batik Air, Malindo and Thai Lion, and regional airline Wings Air – comprise aircraft ranging from ATR 42s and 72s, Airbus A320s and Boeing 737s to widebody A330s and 747s.
"I don't think you'll find another IFE solution that has been sold across LCCs, FSCs and regional airlines, particularly all at the same time," says Satish Mahtani, president director of AirFi Indonesia.
Set up in 2018, AirFi Indonesia had already won business from Sriwijaya Air and Nam Air in Indonesia before this sizeable deal. Within the long-term contract with Lion are options to upgrade to AirFi LEO, the company's lightweight connectivity solution, which is to be launched on the Airbus A319/A320s of Atlantic Airways, based in the Faroe Islands.
The Lion Air agreement delivers a fully managed service to each airline in the group, including all hardware and software, and spanning content and revenue generation capabilities. It contributes to the expansion of AirFi's operations, which span all the largest ASEAN nations – Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. "In Indonesia, we dominate the IFE market," Mahtani says.
Including the Lion Air Group contract, AirFi's Asia-Pacific client portfolio now incorporates 14 airlines. The deal will more than double the AirFi-equipped aircraft in the region, to over 400.
